The HD quality thumbnail isn't showing up. Why?
YouTube only generates HD thumbnails (maxresdefault.jpg) if the original video was uploaded in at least 720p resolution. For older or lower-resolution videos, the "Maximum Quality" preview may be blank. In such cases, use the "Standard" or "High" quality options.
Can I download thumbnails from private videos?
